I really feel sorry for the kids in Gonzales that could really use an outpouring of goodwill from the riding community. I dont know how you could expect anyone who knows anything about the bike rally last year to donate to anything in Gonzales County. By turning away the Christian Motorcycle Association, the American Legion Riders, and any other rider with a patch on his/her back you have, in my mind, alienated all riders. How dare you ask for charity from the riding community.
I used to live in Gonzales and I do know that there are plenty of kids that really need this. I publish a website dedicated to riding in Central Texas. www.roverslists.com I send out a weekly newsletter to a whole lot of riders in Central Texas. Was it the police chief or the sheriff that was stopping patch-holders and sending them away from the rally? I would be much more inclined to publish a public apology for that action (after the promoters are reimbursed for their losses and those responsible are fired).
Why are you appealing to bikers for something that is not related to riding? I suppose you've heard that bikers like to support this kind of thing.
With that said, I will publish this request for donations, for two reasons. First, I do have compassion for children. Second, I had to realize that I cant pick and choose which events and charities to support. I will also publish this letter.
Now, I wish you success in this endeavor and I wish a Merry Christmas to all of the children in Gonzales County and everywhere. I also wish that Gonzales and Gonzales County would get their house in order.
